Washington D.C.’s native son, Rick Debonaire, is ready for the Red Carpet. As this budding talent from the Nation’s Capital takes his steps towards achieving his goals you might notice that this young man’s walk is an aspect of his persona that speaks the loudest. A walk that is defined by three principles: faith, family, and fashion. Rick Debonaire is a man who represents hope to a generation in peril. During a recent shoot with DC Photographer,Brian Freeman, the Stature team got the opportunity to ask this rising star questions.
Rick , thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to sit and talk with Stature. For those who do not know you , who is Rick Debonair?
Well, I am a man defined by my chosen surname name, Debonaire - which means, confident, stylish, and charming. I chose this name with the help of my mother during my teens and wanted to replace my birth surname with debonair because of what it represents. Outside of my name Debonaire, God is first in my life, followed by family. I’m a son and a brother to my 12-year-old sister who means everything to me. My vision is to use my platform as a model and musician as a way to reach the unreachable, providing a spark of hope to my generation.
Nice! Sounds like an awesome vision. Can you talk a little bit more about how you want to use your found purpose in modeling to inspire others?
Sure – I live by the verse, '‘For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” My desire in life is to use my God given talents to serve those around me. Also, I want to be a walking contradiction. Yeah, some people might see my tats, and try to put me in a box. Let them. I want to defy the standards people may try to put on me. I believe this approach will allow me to reach those deemed as outcasts by society – the unreachable.
What would you say your biggest challenge is pursuing the goals you’ve set for yourself?
Hmmmm. Man… I’d have to say my biggest challenge is staying away from these females. Do not get me wrong, I love the ladies. However, my vision for a relationship is one woman and one man. I’ve been practicing abstinence for quite sometime now. Although it’s a challenge, I want to wait until marriage for sex. So yeah, my biggest challenge is staying away from situations that would distract me from that goal.
Wow! That’s awesome bro. Something you don’t hear coming from a lot of men these days. Especially from cats who are as smooth and debonair like yourself, pun intended lol. What would you say is the most fulfilling thing as it pertains to what you do?
The most fulfilling thing for me is that I know my purpose. I use my God given talents to help change the culture for the better.
Dope. In one word, describe what Stature means to you:
To me, Stature is a mature way of saying Swag. It’s inherent; a way of life.
